The
Zambezi Society is assisting Zambezi valley communities to help reduce conflicts
between elephants and people by developing elephant management plans. In order
to do this, detailed information is needed about the movement and behaviour
of elephant populations in the area. The Zambezi Society fits radio-tracking
collars to a sample of the elephant population (see photo), monitors their movements
over a two-year period by tracking the radio signals from an aeroplane, and
then removes the collars.
